Nia is the ultimate "East meets West" method to tone your body, mind and spirit.
More than just a workout, Nia is a unique and uplifting holistic fitness practice addressing each aspect of your life - body, mind and soul. Nia cardio-dance workouts combine 52 simple moves from healing arts, martial arts and dance arts to improve the body, the mind, and the spirit, moving to music. The result is a fusion of movement styles that is more free than other cardiovascular exercises. Modern and jazz dance movements are mixed with heart-pumping kicks and blocks, as well as subtle therapeutic suggestions and visualisations techniques to help develop awareness and heightened sensation. Each class brings mindfulness to your movement experience, leaving you energized, mentally clear, emotionally balanced, refreshed and with a smile on your face! |
Nia is based on bringing pleasure, joy, play and health to the body through movement - it is a fabulously fun workout, usually done barefoot to soul-stirring, inspiring music from around the world, and the routines are varied. Its grounded approach maximises body efficiency and teaches us to consciously move in a gentler way. Nia is perfect for anyone who wants to dance to stay fit.
Nia is joyous and empowering, and each time you may learn something new about yourself and your body. No previous dance experience is necessary, just be prepared to have fun and start listening to your body! Move your way! Nia is non-impact, suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and adaptable to individual needs and abilities. |
Nia has been around since 1982, and all Nia teachers, such as Ruth and Val, are licensed.
