It is a truth universally acknowledged that physical activity isn't just good for our physical body, but it has been proven to have a positive effect on mental health and wellbeing.
I am passionate about using Nia to heal, both physically and mentally - I have personally used Nia to help me with alleviating the stress and anxiety that came with helping to care for my elderly mother, and then coping with her death; dealing with long-held grief over losing a close friend to suicide; and have seen the positive effects Nia can have on friends with bi-polar disorder, PTSD and many other mental health illnesses and challenges. I describe Nia as my oasis, my 'go-to' when I need to lift my mood.
I am so very thankful to have Nia and Moving to Heal in my life, as being able to deliver classes online, and to take classes from other teachers, was instrumental in getting me through the various lockdowns we found ourselves in during the global pandemic.
I have had people in my classes, both in-person and online, report that Nia has helped them with depression and anxiety; helped them through difficult life changes such as bereavement and divorce, and that pandemic; and it is not unusual to occasionally have someone cry in my class, feeling able to release negative emotions in a safe environment.
Nia is non-competitive, non-judgemental, and is suitable for all ages, body shapes and sizes, and fitness levels. Everyone is accepted exactly as they are and for who they are in my classes, with no room for fitness elitism or comparison, but plenty of room for laughter, joy and respect.
If you would like to have a confidential chat with me about how Nia could positively affect your mental health, please do not hesitate to contact me on 07765546159, or by email to [email protected] - all such queries will be treated with the fullest discretion. I am open to doing short taster sessions, one-to-one, if you would like to see if Nia is for you, especially if you do not feel ready to come to one of my scheduled classes.
Nia in the workplace can be a fantastic way to reduce stress levels - please contact me should you feel that your workplace could benefit from regular Nia classes.
Please note - I use the umbrella term 'Nia', to include both classic Nia and Nia Moving to Heal.

I am a signatory of Scotland's Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport...
"Being active isn’t just good for our physical health; it’s also proven to have a positive effect on our mental health and wellbeing. Yet we know that people experiencing a mental health problem can find it difficult to participate in physical activity and sport. And research suggests that the less physical activity a person does, the more likely they are to experience low mood, depression, tension and worry." I had been working in partnership with Reachout since February 2019, offering twice-weekly Nia and Moving to Heal classes, also including one-to-one sessions until the pandemic hit. I hope to return to delivering classes there when circumstances allow.
